History's Journey

These central understandings of God's story and our story

shape our faith and life together at Journey.


  • God - The creator, defined by compassion, grace, mercy, and forgiveness.

    • Genesis 1:1 - "In the beginning, God..."
    • Exodus 34:6 - "The LORD, the compassionate and gracious God..."

  • Humanity - God's children, bearing his image, created to reflect his nature in the world.

    • Genesis 1:27 - "So God created humanity in his own image..."
    • Ephesians 5:1 - "Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children..."

  • Satan - The adversary and defeated accuser of humanity who lies and kills... while he can.

    • James 4:7 - "Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
    • 1 John 4:4 - "The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

  • Jesus - The God of all, entering creation to start a new creation among us.

    • Colossians 1:20 - "...making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."
    • Philippians 2:11 - "...every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord."

  • Sin & Salvation - In Christ, we are restored to God and recreated to live now and forever.

    • John 17:3 - "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God..."
    • 2 Corinthians 5:17 - "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come."

  • Holy Spirit - The creator who gives, restores, indwells, and empowers life in his children.

    • Job 33:4 - "The Spirit of God has made me; the Spirit of the Almighty gives me life."
    • Galatians 5:25 - "Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit."

  • Church - A new humanity, brought near to God and each other, imitating Christ's love.

    • Ephesians 2:13 - "...you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ."
    • Ephesians 4:15 - "We will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him..."

  • Eternity - The new heaven and new earth where God will live with his people.

    • Romans 8:19 - "...creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed."
    • Revelation 21:4 - "There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away."
